I feel like it's a throwback to the [#]ties, but I don't know what era because I only have very recent fashion knowledge. It's like the clothes are ill fitted, but meant to be that way. The scrunches around certain areas make it look awkward, and sort of endearing. I do like some of those scrunchy-pleating, but what I really like are the few pieces that seem light and effortless (reminiscent of Theyskens). The last dress I picked for this entry is simply striking.

Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10395992844426054728noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-897826950292338761.post-20909519339231422011-07-01T14:44:00.000-07:002011-07-01T14:48:00.221-07:00Versace Resort 2012It may have been the lighting, or the young model, but this collection seemed much more lighter and youthful than other Versace collections. It's just more jazzy and club-y.

I adore the gold and shimmer, and the star burst pins. Reed Krakoff is President, Executive Creative Director of Coach, and he holds a Bachelor's in economics from Tufts University. It recently seeped to me that fashion is, first and foremost, a business. I used to think the designers had control over fashion, but now I realize it's ultimately the masses (and CEOs). Fashion has to walk the fine line between avant garde and appease enough people for a profit. Olivier Theyskens, in my opinion, is one of the most talented and brilliant fashion designers out there, yet he was let go twice (Rochas, then Nina Ricci). Why? His pieces were raved on by many, but deemed "impractical" to wear and did not sell well. In the end, fashion is for selling.
But back to Coach and the public perception of fashion. I find it really amusing when someone claims they know a lot about fashion, and go on to list brands like Chanel, Coach, Gucci, Dolce and Gabbana. I want to ask them if they can name the designers behind each brand. If they can, I am impressed. Because in my experience with people in real life and fashion, a knowledge of fashion has been associated with wearing hip clothes (simple tank, short waist-line shorts), taking a like to wearing clothes from Forever 21, and telling others you are fashionable.

/rant.

btw i adore Fossil. Their stuff is cute, rather inexpensive, and made of good material (durable). I have a ton of Fossil things, and I recommend you get in on it ;)

To me, they are the better version of Coach (better designs, better materials, cheaper price). I approve of the other footwear.
I started loving it when the white stepped in, everything was very summer-y and i adore the interesting lengths of the shirt to skirt. The flowers are so refreshing and I like that it's not flowery prints like a lot of other trends right now, but seem to be alive on the dresses themselves.

I adore this next dress, with the fun geometric print. John Galliano, ex- creative director of Christian Dior, was caught making very Anti-Semantic comments in a pub, while apparently intoxicated.

I am very surprised by this, as people in ~fashion are often considered very "liberal" and "open", what with the gay members and all, and the whole concept of fashion in general...

But, besides that, It's interesting how Galliano's personal thoughts on a matter that has no relevance to the clothes he designs will ultimately alter his career. Sometimes I think that we ought to look at what a specific person's traits for a job will be, and forget the rest. I also think of this when politicians cheat on their significant other, because what does that have to do with raising the United States' GDP? Yet, I suppose, on some ethical or moral ground, all the decisions we make are based on our values, so everything is altered by our thoughts, so everything is of relevance.

/rant. I am clearly tired/exhausted from studying so much Chemistry/Physics while procrastinating.

Oh, Post Note: A lot of people have commented on the apparent irony at Galliano's anti Semantic remarks, while having Natalie Portman, a Jewish woman, take over Maryna Linchuk as the face of the Miss Cherie Dior perfume. Well, I can only imagine that he had little decision over the face of his perfume, or that he thinks of his fashion business as separate from his personal thoughts and realizes that other people may value Jewish people more than he does.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10395992844426054728noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-897826950292338761.post-16050999686281262572011-02-20T17:46:00.000-08:002011-02-20T17:59:22.065-08:00More Fall 2011 Fashion Week favoritesThreeasfour Fall 2011 Ready to Wear
So interesting, I love the influence of violins or something, So amazing.

Jill Stuart Fall 2011 Ready To Wear
Shapes and materials are reminding me of Anna Sui, for whatever reason. Also reflected Chanel's tweed coats and ethnic prints (Proenza Schouler). Once the gowns started coming, though, WOAH! So beautiful, so so beautiful. Ranging from fun bright prints to classic white dresses, the dresses are sure to be lusted after by many. I noticed that the universe (or at least, stars) are a common theme this year: After Christopher Kane had his collection with stars, I've seen many designers this season have at least one piece with stars (not the star shape, but universe stars--that is, glistening white spots on a darker coloured background--) including Michael Kors.
Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10395992844426054728noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-897826950292338761.post-45435357155369256132011-02-16T18:37:00.001-08:002011-02-20T17:45:09.783-08:00Fashion Week is here!SO excited!!! I love seeing all the new designs. Collections I rather like so far are:

Costello Tagliapietra Fall 2011 Ready to Wear
This has simplicity and colour. I love the colours--citrus and matches the flow of the material; light and bright. The clothes look well constructed and very wearable.

Carolina Herrera Fall 2011 Ready to Wear
I like the figure of the shapes--that's what's made this collection good for me. A lot of pieces are not very modern to me, but all the clothes are empowering.

Rodarte Fall 2011 Ready to Wear
Again, really like the silhouette of the pieces I like--which are mostly the flowy, long dresses that are reminiscent of the Amish (and of Theyskens at Nina Ricci), but with colour and a lightness. I don't get half the collection (or more), with the geometric boxes that i find rather unflattering to the figure, but the one that I did like the one brown square sweater included below. I like the pants. and the 2 red dresses at the end were simply delectable.

Marc Jacobs Fall 2011 Ready to Wear
Is it possible to like a collection overall but now really like any specific pieces? that's how I feel towards this collection; I get what he was going for and what he was thinking, and I go "YES! YES!" but every outfit has something that I find distasteful. Very very similar to Prada a few seasons ago in terms of lace/texture and the shape seems to be the emerging trend (i love it! but it does look rather... not good). Half the models look so skinny and the other half look like fat beavers

Preen Fall 2011 Ready to Wear
I adore prints, especially colorful but not overbearing coloured ones, so Preen was definitely already on my 'good' list from the beginning. And then those geometric shapes that contained the colors--wow! It seems rather smart to do: colorful print with neutral skirt/pants/blazer, and I love it. Can't go wrong. I adore the front of those dresses, that seem to open up perfectly and are a new thing that make the collection seem new while the overall idea has been done before. Although, my excitement did wane with the collection's passing...
Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10395992844426054728noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-897826950292338761.post-43193653715460953392011-01-23T10:15:00.001-08:002011-01-23T10:15:34.474-08:00I don't get fashion magazines at collegebecause they are still sent to my house. Not because I'm too lazy to call them and have them change the address, but because I do not want them crumpling my beautiful magazines into a tiny mailbox! So when I visit home, I love running to the huge pile of magazines waiting for me and spending hours looking through them. Of course, the lame thing about this is that magazines are very of the moment, and so looking at magazines that were two, or even one month ago are very weird and I feel like I"m looking at archives. Oh fashion, you may be faster than the speed of light!

Anyway, top fashion news that you should know by now:
• the legendary Peter Lindbergh is back at Vogue! Of course this was announced RIGHT after I stopped subscribing to Vogue... I miss it and wish I still subscribed now! I have one editorial that he shot, the one with Natalia Vodianova and it's so gorgeous.
• Carine Roitfeld has stepped down from Vogue Paris and her fellow Parisienne Emmanuelle Alt is taking over as Editor-in-Chief of Vogue Paris.
• this isn't huge news, but I am so excited for the new fashion documentary Bill Cunningham: New York because I adore The New York Times photographer Bill Cunningham.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10395992844426054728noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-897826950292338761.post-1682544854336658372010-04-20T20:44:00.000-07:002011-06-16T08:57:51.516-07:00Teen Vogue May 2010Apparently my parents have been hiding my magazines!!! I love the layout of this site. I spent way too much time on it to just desert it!

Oh remember my last post about Emma Watson? I filled out this quiz on teenvogue.com and actually got an Emma Watson poster! It's so lovely, but I haven't hung it up because I don't have posters in my room and it will seem like I"m obsessed with her when I'm not--I just don't have posters :P

I caught up on a few S/S 2010 shows on Mod-TV & Style podcasts on my iPod last afternoon. I'll post some thoughts up later :D

I miss fashion. Well, i got two notable issues of Teen Vogue since the last one.

The first one has Emma Watson on it! How fun! She looks great, and the styling is just super quirky cute.
<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 301px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhLFT0BTmG0KryiDLnEVU-HkwJWKgsgOgaTJXYLSOFPPNwiNpr3525iDXHFNcF71b5vFJdBQZqG2migYMGn4GbA47Kpq9ppdiETIyj0y-4Jbp_s_C6YfepfEiYnWcMJl-4WwCpPtqxmods/s400/ppsl-01-emma0906.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5366229413809745106" />
I'm so excited about Emma going to Brown-- makes me want to get in Brown!

The latest issue had Taylor Momsen on it, which wasn't as cool but I was excited because the BACKGROUND was so beautiful! Central Park in NYC. I want to go there!
I personally ABHOR Taylor's new haircut... but whatever. Why did I subscribe to this magazine again?" and comforted solely through the thought that it cost $5/year for 12 issues. But today, after flipping through the pages while eating Tostito's Restaraunt Style tortilla chips and salsa (that my dad incorrectly bought yesterday at Wal Mart. I wanted Hint of Lime chips...) with the wafting smell of perfume samples from the magazine. It was not a pleasant mix, but the magazine was very nice overall.
1. The cover is very fresh and the colors used are not too neon ish gross or serious, but a perfect mix of spring without classic spring colors.
I love the advertisements, they're very nicely done, especially : COACH. I sort of hate this brand, but I cannot deny the wonderful ness that Ali Michael has brought to this ad campaign. (Ok so I also liked their ad campaign with Irina Lazareanu, but this one was so much cuter/ sweeter.) I love love love all the 4 pages of super Ali spread across my hands.
Favorite Editorial: Blues Traveler with Jac and Ansel Elgort, shot by Arthur Elgort. SOO CUTE! omg the girl is pretty and the boy is cute. I love every single spread, you can see the spring spreading around the eco nature scenes. Ahh, I will scan every single page of this editorial later.
The next editorial (Twilight) sort of SUCKED. It screamed "drama wannabe drama queen" shit and I was like "ugh, I'm so over it" and didn't bother to examine the clothing. I figure I will when I'm bored enough.
I don't care about any of the "hot" music people: lily allen, ladyhawke, pshh I don't care. Let's interview Rilo Kiley or Bishop Allen, please.
OOH AND THEY GAVE BISHOP ALLEN 2.5/4 stars and Kelly Clarkson 3.5/4 LIKE NOOOO. I didn't even know Bishop Allen was like "new" and "hip" or whatever it is kids my age these days are saying... I was listening to Bishop Allen this weekend, thinking it was a band like Iron and Wine that I'd just never discovered, and loving them. They're definitely skyrocketing to my last.fm past 7 days list...

ALSO: I like the Emma Roberts shoot, she's really grown and I can admire her beauty now. haha like before I couldn't? Idk. I liked Unfabulous, though. Favorite show on Nick? besides Ned's Unclassified, maybe. Tie?

EWW hate the 4 page spread featuring Agyness Deyn, Rhianna, and Ashley Tisdale's fashion spree things. OK mostly just Agyness and Ashley's. Rhianna is ok but I don't like her in that new Unicef Gucci commercial.

AHH FINAL EDITORIAL: adored it! so cute and fresh and whatever over adjectives are used to describe spring. ENCHANTED SOLDIER, I think they called it, and it is so lovely and different but not radically different to be like "freakkk" and the colors are so freshly pale, unlike some of Teen Vogue's past editorials with such saturated colors that I can't distinguish colors in reality because they're so pale.

Ok so overall impressed (: for Teen Vogue.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10395992844426054728noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-897826950292338761.post-85714398478232445772009-03-08T16:38:00.000-07:002011-06-16T09:01:15.170-07:00F/W 2009 thoughtsI wrote these thoughts on October 21, 2008 while watching various fashion podcasts of the F/W 2009 season. edited for your eye pleasure

Christopher Bailey => Burberry
- Love the colors (melancholy dark nature), nostalgia, rain, lovely, flower, textures.

Giles
-pacman ! colors,

Christopher Kane
- Weird circle thing is remarkable! Srsly. and those shoes are like, killer.

Alberta Ferretti
- Awesome fringe stuff and color, loose sheer weird colored leggings. A bit too fringy, like carpet, though...

Jil Sander
- lovely lovely earrings!, fringes weren't that great... color is great. lovely contour

Bottega Veneta
- Um. Wtf plastic? No. This was supposed to be the "earthy" collection but I hate the colors and textures. although i liked a few things... like the ribbon green dresses.

Prada
- I actually like it! love the wrinkles. I know I complained bout Prada before, but I like it now. and I love how everybody walked really slow because the shoes were wayyy too high. haha Miuccia blamed it on the socks. they'll be lowered for mass production.

Marni
- wow. Like, what people would wear on "wacky tacky day". seriously wayy over load.

Roberto Cavalli
- effing gorgeous backdrop; love love him. he made me fall in love with his leopard printed dress (which I used to hate). although this one reminded me of a rainfall in a garden. ahh, I love it. although some pieces reminded me of Victoria's Secret. geez. Très Teen Vogue. some are ugly though... I love the hand painted dresses and those porcelain ones. Very Chinese music in the background, I think.

Gucci
- ehh. Colors are ugly.

Allesandro Dell'Acqua
- I like it, but not too much. hmm. interesting clothes and knits (underwear shorts)... *notices baggy boots*

Dolce & Gabbanna
- I like the pajama concept, but the colors and jewelry were too much for me.
Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10395992844426054728noreply@blogger.com0
